I would like to close this year with this beautiful, sun-resembling, powerful homeopathic remedy called Calendula officinalis, which has been very helpful in my household too recently.
Originally native to Mediterranean regions but has since been naturalised across much of the world. Its historical use can be traced back to ancient civilisations such as the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, who revered it for its medicinal properties. Calendula’s healing properties have been recognised since ancient times. There are records of its use as a medicinal herb in Mayan and Aztec cultures.
Calendula flowers at dawn, when the sun begins to rise. It closes at sunset and during cloudy weather. The plant's name is Latin in origin and refers to its propensity to bloom on the first day, or calends, of every month. Another commonly used name is Marigold.
It has a specific affinity toward lacerated and suppurating wounds and can be used internally and topically.
Calendula is known as the homeopathic antiseptic. It restores the vitality of an injured part, protecting it from putrification and regenerating tissue back to health. It is suitable for all cases of injury where the skin is broken and helps to prevent blood poisoning.
I used it in delicate days postpartum. Externally, I washed myself after our home birth, and I used it for my daughter to wash her belly button in the first weeks of her life. It was supporting both of us successfully from getting any kind of infection and healing our small skin injuries. My recent client was taking it also internally, as it was bringing her immediate relief from small tears that happened in her childbirth. The relief was instant, and this beautiful remedy has shown us the power she possesses to support our own healing. Together with Arnica, I must say it is a dynamic combo for fast and deep recovery without any outside “help” postpartum.
In other cases, it is used after childbirth needing a C-section and following recovery or any kind of surgery, as it promotes healthy granulation, healing processes, soothes affected tissue, stops bleeding, and prevents, above all, the already mentioned infection. Even a wound that has problematic healing with inflammatory processes will heal very nicely after applying Calendula.
Calendula mouthwash or tincture is used to promote oral hygiene, soothe inflamed gums, and alleviate mouth ulcers and canker sores. Sometimes it is indicated for digestive issues such as gastritis, indigestion, and peptic ulcers, helping to reduce inflammation and promote healing of the digestive mucosa as it soothes inflammation in the stomach and intestines when taken internally.
So, calendula is especially beneficial for individuals who are prone to skin injuries, cuts, and abrasions, or those recovering from surgery. People who benefit from Calendula often experience frequent skin issues, whether from infections, inflammation, or environmental irritants. They may have a delicate or sensitive constitution, with a tendency to develop wounds that are slow to heal. Calendula is also ideal for those who experience recurring skin problems, such as rashes or ulcers, as it promotes tissue repair and helps prevent infection.
With this year slowly coming to an end, I take the opportunity to let this remedy’s yellow-orange golden light guide you into the new one peacefully and joyfully, celebrating each of our own vital force that pulsate within us.
Merry Christmas and blessed New Year,
Amor Vitae Homeopathy
